I am interested in how species and ecosystems respond to acute environmental changes with an emphasis on those induced by human impact. I study these questions by exploring animal behavior, evolutionary ecology and functional genomics, in various ecosystems around the world. I am particularly fascinated by birds (with a soft spot for common mynas) and mammals, but also the occasional reptile.
In my current project with Rachael and my second mentor, Prof. Tom Gilbert (University of Copenhagen), I study the impact of mercury pollution on avian bioindicators in the Peruvian Amazon. I use a set of ecotoxicological, endocrinological and advanced genomics techniques to identify adaptive responses that allow for species to survive long-term exposure to heavy metal environmental pollution.
When I am not in the field, I love making music, hiking with my partner, and petting any dog that passes by.
